Upcoming November 2019 Events and Other Items of Possible Interest to Northwest Arkansas Veterans Coalition Members

Chaffee Crossing Veterans Day Parade:  USS Snook Base is participating in the Chaffee Crossing Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

Siloam Springs Veterans Day Parade:  Saturday, November 9, 2019, the Siloam Parade Veterans Parade starts at the National Guard Armory at 1333 E. Main Street at 9 a.m. and ends at the American Legion Post 29, 110 N Mount Olive.

11th Annual Veteran’s Memorial 5k Race:  The Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corporation will hold a 5K race on Saturday, November 9, 2019, to raise funds for the Fayetteville National Cemetery.  The 5K course will begin near the entrance to the Fayetteville National Cemetery, 700 S. Government Blvd.  Fees are $25 if postmarked on or before October 25, 2019, otherwise it is $30 the day of race.  The on-line entry form is available, although there is a small service fee, through https://app.regwiz.io/register/veterans5k.  On-line early entries are discounted.  For directions and maps, go to http://RNCIC.com.  Parking is on the streets leading to and surrounding the National Cemetery. Fayetteville Veterans Celebration:  Fayetteville will hold a community event to honor veterans on Sunday, November 10, 2019, from 2 to 5 p.m. on the Fayetteville Town Center/Square.  Plans call for a concert and ceremony honoring 99-year-old WWII veteran Captain Rita Miller, followed by a reception and family events with displays of military vehicles and paraphernalia.

USS Snook Base Raffle Drawing:  USS Snook Base will announce the winner of its Thanksgiving Meat Raffle in front of Allen’s Grocery Store in Bella Vista at noon on Monday, November 11, 2019.

Location Change for VAVS Meeting:  The VAVS meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at 1 p.m. in the conference room at the Washington County Veterans Services Office – 62 W. North St., Fayetteville, Arkansas e.

Wednesday Lunch and Live Country Music at American Legion Post 27:  Each Wednesday, American Legion Post 27 in Fayetteville holds a fund-raising lunch for $5.  In honor of Veterans Day, the lunch will be free to veterans on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. 

On the first Wednesday of the month the patients at the Fayetteville Veterans Home are invited to eat for free.  In December the first Wednesday lunch will include a special Christmas gift presentation to the Veterans Home attendees. 

The second and third Saturdays offer dancing beginning at 7 p.m. with live bands.  The Post breakfast is held the third Saturday of the month.  Cost is $6.  Karaoke starts October 13, 2019, beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday nights.

The Post will hold a Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, starting at 11 a.m. until the food is gone.

244th Marine Corps Ball:  Marine Corps League Northwest Arkansas Detachment 854 will be sponsoring the 244th Marine Corps Charity Ball at the Embassy Suites in Rogers on Saturday, November 16, 2019.  For more information please visit the Marine Corps League Facebook Page.

House Demolition for National Cemetery Expansion:  Demolition of the house at 920 S. Hill Street in Fayetteville will be held the weekend of November 15-17, 2019.  Volunteers are needed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 15-17, 2019.  For more information please contact Jannie Layne at 479-530-7728 or Jannielayne1206@gmail.com.

Chili Cook off at Vet Center:  A chili cook off and open house will be held at the Fayetteville Vet Center beginning at noon on Friday, November 22, 2919, 1416 N College Ave, Fayetteville.

Coats for Vets:  The Salute Foundation is holding a coat drive to benefit homeless veterans across Northwest Arkansas.  Coats can be dropped off starting Sunday, December 1, 2019, at the Center for Nonprofits, 1200 W. Walnut Street in Rogers. For other drop off point locations throughout Northwest Arkansas go to their website, www.salutefoundation.org.

VA MISSION Act Overview:  In conjuction with the Salute Foundation final day of their coat collection for homeless veterans (see above), The Concerned Veterans for America will be holding an information event to provide an overview of the the VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks Act otherwise known as the VA MISSION Act.  The event will take place 6 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the Center for Nonprofits, 1200 W. Camp Alliance Night of Giving:  Camp Alliance, Pinnacle Hills Promenade, and retail partners will once again host a “Night of Giving” Friday December 13, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m.  This year’s event will have over 45 Pinnacle Hills Promenade Retailers participating to offer a Veteran /Military shopping discount until close of business, local vendors and businesses sampling items, prize giveaways, and Silver Star Gift recipients will receive their gifts.

Wreaths Across America:  The annual Wreaths Across America at Fayetteville will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019.  Volunteers should assemble at Baum Stadium parking lot beginning at 6:30 a.m. where they will be transported in buses beginning at 6:45 a.m. to the cemetery.  The set up volunteers should arrive at the cemetery at 7:30 for wreath distribution and box removal and then at 8 a.m. the volunteers will distribute wreaths to designated areas.  The Wreaths Across America ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the laying of wreaths first by family members, then veterans, and then the general public (volunteers).  There is an opportunity for veteran’s organizations to set up tables for information at the stadium.

Siloam Springs DAV Raffle:  Siloam Springs DAV is holding a raffle for two sides of Angus beef; thereby there are two changes to win.  Tickets are $10 each or two for $15.  Winners will be announced on April 15, 2020.  For more information or for raffle tickets contact Ron Evans at 479-427-6235 or ronaldevans49@yahoo.com.

American Legion Breakfasts: The first Saturday of each month is breakfast at American Legion Post 100 in Rogers and American Legion Post 139 in Springdale.  The cost is $7 and $5 respectively.  Tickets for the raffle of a Sedona Giant bike with accessories will be available at Post 100 in Rogers for $5 per ticket or 6 for $25 with a drawing at the December 7, 2019, breakfast.  Only 250 tickets will be sold.

Springdale Veterans Memorial Meeting:  The Springdale Veterans Memorial group holds its monthly meeting the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Springdale Library.  The group is planning development of a military memorial park in Springdale.  For more information please contact Jannie D Layne at 479-530-7728 or Jannielayne1206@gmail.com.
